I'vealways been an avid skier so it was only natural that I wouldbuy a timeshare in Stowe, Vermont, ensuring that every year I could return to my beloved slopes. I was such aregular I even knew everyone's name that worked the lift. But after my wifeaccused me of being too predictable I decided to shake things up.
This year I traded my week in Stowe for a Tennessee timeshare. My wife didn'tbelieve I'd really done it until I showed her the airplane tickets. But in notime we were in the heart of Nashville, not knowing what to do with ourselvesand acting like a couple of kids in love. The weather was unbelievable, as you'dexpect - just shirtsleeves and shorts. Since my wife is the big country musicfan I let her plan the itinerary for us.
We started off with a tour of the Grand Ole Opry - such a historic site. Ididn't realize just how many legendary musicians performed there, from ElvisPresley and Hank Williams Sr. to The Byrds and so many others. I decided thatgiving up skiing for one season was definitely worth reconnecting with my wife.
After our tour of the Opry my wife took me downtown to Nashville for a snack -we'd be in for an authentic southern dinner that night - including friedalligator tail (it does not taste like chicken). After more sightseeing wereturned to our timeshare for a little R&R. Later we headed out to, what else, aconcert.
We had a fantastic time in Nashville but I had another ace up my sleeve tosurprise my wife. I had booked an additional week in atimeshare rentalin Memphis. We were in for another magical week.
The first place on my list of places to see was Graceland of course. We gotthere early to avoid the long lines. After we enjoyed browsing the storesselling all kinds of kitschy Elvis memorabilia - even a clock with swivelinghips!
After that my wife decided it was time for something a little more elegant -we were in the heart of the genteel south after all. So we headed over to theThe Peabody Hotel for a drink and to watch the ducks waddle down from theirrooftop home to the fountain in the lobby of the hotel - only in the south!
Next we headed for a walk down famed Beale Street where we ducked into BBKing's nightclub for some live music. Believe me, after a long night of dancingto incredible music we were glad we had a nearby timeshare rental to return to.
We had such a good time that I had to promise her that next year we'd see theGreat Smoky Mountains and reserve a Gatlinburg timeshare. I think I'll keep surprising my wife every year. Whoknows? Maybe we'll even try jolly old London's timeshare rentals.
