If you're brand new to Vegas, this might not upset you as much as it should. For those of you that have been in Vegas for a while, you may still be upset about this. What are we talking about? We're talking about free parking for locals and casino guests. In the old days (only a few years ago), free parking for locals and free parking for tourists was the norm. You wouldn't have to reach into your wallet until after you got inside the casino.
Nowadays, though, many casinos on the Las Vegas Strip are charging for parking. But, thankfully, some Vegas casinos still offer free parking to locals and free parking to guests and tourists. If you want to see where you can park for free in Vegas and where you're going to get charged, check out our lists and charts below.

Parking Tips for Vegas Locals and Tourists
We have some more tips on parking! You can save some money when it comes to parking on the Strip.
- If you're going to be there for a while, consider taking an Uber, Lyft, or Taxi. A lot of times it can be cheaper than what the parking would cost you and you don't have to worry about a designated driver.
- While we aren't going to outright advocate this, you can always 'park next door' at a casino that does not charge for parking. The reason we aren't gung ho about this is we don't want to ever hurt the casinos that are being nice to locals by taking up their free parking space and giving our business to their neighbors.
- Check and see if the casino does any sort of parking validation. A lot of times they will give you free parking if you spend a certain amount of money inside, are a guest (on a staycation) or are a certain tier level among their rewards program. Remember, it never hurts to ask.
- If you have to bite the bullet, car pool if you've got a bunch of friends and you can split the cost. $20 four or five ways is much easier to swallow than $20 one way.
Parking on the Vegas strip used to be free everywhere!
As if the casinos aren't getting enough of our money when we gamble, go to shows, or eat in the restaurants, they want more of it now. Most casinos on the strip now have some form of charge for parking. The charge varies depending on the size of your vehicle, what property you are at, and how long you are there for.
Some casinos on the strip are allowing locals to park for free still, though, there usually is a time limit on that ( < 24 hours).
Normally, we would list all of the casinos in alphabetical order and give you all of the parking details like a few other sites do. However, since this site is dedicated to serving Las Vegas locals, we're going to separate out the casinos that offer some form of free parking first and then follow up with the ones that are charging regardless.
In the Casinos defense...
The casinos have claimed that the move to charge for parking is not directed at solely a money grab. The casinos have integrated some systems to help you find spots easier (the little lights that float over the spots that turn red when the spot is taken) and have made a few other improvements that they say are 'what you're paying for now'. We will reserve our judgment on whether or not we agree with the practice for locals, but let's just say we are definitely biting our tongues.
NYC is offering a second pay-by-cell option for on-street parking. Reduce exposure risk for yourself and our workforce – use contactless methods to pay for parking.
- ParkNYC app: pay for parking from pre-loaded wallet, no transaction fee (minimum $25 wallet)
- ParkMobile app:pay for individual parking session, plus a $0.15 per transaction fee (no wallet or preload required)
Metered Parking Rates
Parking rates vary across the five boroughs and are reflective of neighborhood parking conditions including land use, density, and parking demand. Individual meter rates are posted on each parking meter and are limited to the posted duration on regulatory signage on each block. The maximum time for a parking session varies by type of vehicle and range from one hour to 15 hours. Metered regulations are not in effect on Sundays and motorists are advised to always check posted signage before parking.
There are different parking rate zones across the city tailored to improve curb access, promote turnover and increase parking availability. Hourly parking rates for passenger parking range from $1.25 to $7.50, and from $5.00 to $8.00 for commercial parking, depending on the location and duration.
The details and location of parking rate zones may be found on NYC DOT’s Parking Rate Map
*Always remember to check posted signage and meters to confirm regulations and price. Vehicle type, rates and durations may be variable throughout the day.
Rates and rules for commercial vehicles are different.

One-Hour Meters Converting to Two-Hour Meters, Citywide in 2020
Beginning in October 2020, NYC DOT will start converting one-hour meter parking zones to two-hour meter parking across the five boroughs, and will institute a graduated rate (i.e. higher cost) for the second hour of parking. The expansion of second hour parking options will begin on October 1 on a borough-by-borough basis, with completion expected by mid-December.
This will change the meter rates in Zone M3 in Manhattan and Zones 1, 2, and 3 in the outer boroughs. The new meter rates coming into effect are outlined in the table below. Existing non-standard meter rates (i.e. longer time limits, existing progressive rates, etc.) may be changed based on the needs of those locations.
